Zambian 8 Day Bush Hike - Kapamba Bushcamp

After breakfast on Day 4, we were picked up by Mike, the manager of one of the camps we would not be staying in, and transported to our next camp, Kapamba, all the while enjoying a game drive en route.
The Kapamba Camp was quite different to Chamilandu in that it is overlooking the Kapamba River, ideal for viewing the abundant wildlife that comes to drink at the river.  Our walking safaris took us along the many trails that follow the course of the river.  We were fascinated that a reasonably short drive to another camp presented a very different experience in both the landscape and wildlife.

Cool towels and drinks waiting
for us....see what I mean?

Our beautiful little house

Deck the full width of our cabin
The plunge pool in our bathroom

The  pool was a welcome treat
during the heat of the day

Even this little guy found it hot and
lived  in the
drain of our plunge pool

Three in one shot...bonus!

Adorable

Any clues that I love giraffes?..and for more
fun, watch the sparring young males in the clip
below.  So polite, they take turns whacking
each other

Another beautiful sunset

Discovered this on the bathroom counter..
he's just a harmless house spider...so they say..

Another resident...an albino frog

I love how they kneel when they eat, just like
the pigs I used to raise as a kid, and all pigs I reckon.
You may have noticed in the warthog clip in the previous blog, that warthogs run with their tails straight up in the air.  This provides markers for the rest of the sounder (group of warthogs) to follow.  Lions have black on the back of their ears, and Impala have the McDonalds "M" on their bums for the
same reason - makes it easy to tailgate.

Oh....Hello!!

A bit of a tense confrontation.  We sat still
and silent and after about 20 minutes,
they left

Another fabulous meal after a wonderful day!

Returning from dinner, we discover
that the staff has locked up our 4th wall,
protecting us against elephants (yeah right...
as if those gates would work!)

Elephants seem to eat anything!

A bit of reading in the lounge
One evening, we were having dinner on the deck when we heard a crazy sound, really close to us.  Mishek shone his ever-handy flashlight toward the edge of the deck and we were shocked to see a herd of elephants no more than 30 feet away, munching on the trees.
