Entering San Francisco |
Views from our Pacifica campground |
This is BART, one of San Francisco's light rail transit options.
Parking in the lot is $2 per day; fares are $6/pp return. Once
we arrived downtown, we bought tickets for $12 each that
took us all over the city on any form of transit available; cable
car, streetcar, bus, train....unique concept, don't you think? |
We could see the cablecar but couldn't get on it for
a few minutes....it just sat there... |
So I amused myself taking photo's |
Cablecar came down the hill and these fellows turned it,
manually, on this turn-table, to head it back up the hill. |
And off we go! |
Great old building.. |
..and really cool vehicles |
Where we ate lunch on Fisherman's Wharf...eat inside
or on the street. Great seafood! |
Cooking up a mess of crab |
Feeding the gulls her ice cream cone; no wonder they are
the size of small dogs! |
We visited Alcatraz the last time we were here. |
A free museum on the wharf, offered a visit to the past. Most
of these automated items Bob and I saw in the old days visiting the
Canadian National Exhibition. This farm had over 150 working
parts and we got to enjoy it for 75 cents. |
Some were kind of creepy... |
We believe we know a couple of guys who might be
interested in owning this baby |
She was nasty in the '50's and almost as nasty now! |
Friends found on Pier 39 |
Speaking of friends; where's Bobby? |
There he is! |
So many fun cars on the streets of San Fran |
Very old Pier 2 |
Great design for news stands... |
....'er...toilets |
View of the Golden Gate Bridge from Golden Gate Park |
Houses on the edge of the park...mucho moolah! |
From the other side |
Mom and Dad had a Seth Thomas kitchen clock. We
found this one outside the California State Medical Center |
Views of San Francisco from Twin Peaks |
Hey cute car....are you following us? |
One of the twins |
Downtown |
Beautiful old houses |
Mosaics on a church in a Spanish area of the city |
Sign in the window of someone's home |
Leaving San Francisco on a glorious sunny morning, we
pass through the countryside near Salinas...."The Fruit Basket
of North America" |
School in Carmel...now that is my idea of a school! |
Big Sur...ahh, how we recall this from our last trip down the
coast. Hasn't changed much and it's pretty much as spectacular
and daunting as it was years ago. A bit more perhaps, since
we were down to one lane a few times as big rigs fixed
dramatic erosion on the cliff side |
Memories of South America |
First thing we see as we leave Big Sur, is the Hearst Castle,
high on a hill. We visited the castle last time, and have no difficulty
recalling this example of excess, so didn't bother
to do so again. |
Morro Rock....very impressive. We stayed in a really nice
regional park in the hills and overlooking the Pacific |
Next time: Absolutely stunning Malibu and a very exciting story!!
