Back on the ground, our guide Gabriel, took us for a hike on the Brazil side of the falls.
Beautiful butterflies were everywhere!
This little fellow below, sticks his long snout into the earth and grabs worms to eat. Unfortunately, tourists are also feeding them human food and they forage in garbage bins.
Lots of these about as well...sometimes startling us as we hiked the trails.
Gabriel and our driver then took us across the border and into Argentina where we would visit the falls from a very different perspective. We checked into the most magnificent hotel, close to the falls. We had a fabulous dinner in the fine dining room, walked the grounds to pretend we would reduce the bellies somewhat, then off to bed.
Next morning, Gabriel picked us up and we were taken to the park where we climbed aboard safari vehicles for the ride down into the gorge for our boat ride under the falls.
Below: Gabriel showing us the route we would take for the boat and the hike following the very wet boat ride.
Below: The boat and the ride. We were soaked right through, then had to walk in wet clothes for almost 3 hours. By that time, my clothes were dry.
Not only does the jungle hold beautiful Jays (sounds just like our Jays in Canada) like this one. It also hides Puma, not a threat to man because it eats pretty much anything..... many varieties of snake and Jaguar, which is a threat to man since it only eats large animals. No tour groups are taken through the jungle at night because the Jaguar is nocturnal, except at the time of the full moon. A park ranger accompanies the tour and only one group per night is allowed into the jungle. We learned that when there is a full moon, you can see a rainbow over the falls.
We left the park at mid afternoon and headed for Iguazu Airport where we boarded our flight to Buenos Aires.
