Safe and Sound in Peru!

Hi everyone! Arrived in Lima at 7:00 a.m. this morning. Lovely flight to NYC, a few hours wait at JFK then off to Lima. No rest yet, other than a few hours on the plane. We explored the city today and find it friendly and beautiful. Staying in an area of the city called Mira Flores, a few blocks from the beach and from the busiest street.

Lima is a city of 9 million people and it stretches 100 kms from top to bottom. It sits well above sea level and so, as we were driven from the airport, the streets twisted and turned from the beach, up and up until we were in the city and well above the beach. Surfers were everywhere!

The very green city square is filled with flower gardens, trees, wild parakeets, cows and cats!

Toronto has moose and Lima copied Calgary with it's cows. The cats are feral and are found in abundance, in the trees and hiding under flowers. A flock of parakeets could be heard before they were seen and the bright green of their feathers, as they flew over the trees, was a beautiful sight.

We had Cebiche at lunch today.....a seafood dish that, in some countries, is a soup. In Peru, at least at this particular restaurant, it was a salad. The seafood is not cooked over heat but is marinated until the flesh of the fish and seafood appears and tastes cooked. The six of us have had many dishes of Cebiche (also known as Ceviche) to compare this to...having experienced it in Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica and other southern countries, and we pretty much agreed that this was the best yet!

About to have a wee rest before we try out a little restaurant in the neighbourhood for dinner. I plan to have more pics tomorrow.

Love to everyone!
Sharon
